Associated Press reported on March 8, 2013, about the $7 million penalty that Google will pay to settle a year’s old multi-state investigation where the search engine’s collection of emails, passwords and many other important data were sent over wireless networks in various areas across world.

According to reports, the resolution will help in closing a joint investigation being carried on by attorneys general of as many as 30 states.

Reports also state that the settlement is expected to be announced early next week. The $7 million amount will be distributed among all the states.

Google this year has generated revenue of more than $61 billion and as per this pace, the company earns $7 million revenue per hour on an average.

The case being investigated dates back to 2010. Google Inc. discovered that the company vehicles used for taking street-level photos for its online mapping service have been vacuuming up private information transmitted over wireless networks.

Moreover, the data was not being protected by passwords. Though Google gave an explanation for the same, it didn't please the watchdogs, thereby initiating the investigation.
