More and more you may have noticed in Google search results that there’s an image of someone’s face on the left-side of meta description of the results ( See photo example ). This is known as “ Google Authorship ”, and it’s a way to link your Google+ profile to the content you create to show you as an authority on a topic when it’s delivered as a relevant search result to a user.

Google lays out the two simple steps needed to set up authorship , which are: 1) Create a Google+ Profile and 2) Link your web content to it . The easiest way to get this to work is to link your website ( where the image you want featured is hosted ) to your Google+ profile ( and vice versa ). Start by verifying your contact information and email with Google ( when you set up your Google+ profile ), then make sure that your content is linked on your profile. Next, link from your website to you Google+ page using the " rel=author " HTML tag markup ( if you're using WordPress, you can use the Author Box Reloaded Plugin to get this done ). Over time, when the Googlebot comes back to crawl your site, it should find the links and then start associating your image with your content in search results.
