The new $100 bill which was due to reach banks originally in 2011, is debuting on Oct 08, 2013. The currency's new security measures had caused problems due to which the bills were creasing during printing leaving blank spaces.
However the government shutdown hasn't affected the bills since the budget of Federal reserve is not included in the congressional appropriations stalemate.
Several features in the new bill are designed, making it easier to authenticate for the public and more difficult for counterfeiters to replicate.
These measures include a blue 3-D security ribbon and a color-shifting ink which changes from copper to green on tilting the note.
The ink can be found on one of the 100s on the back of the bill, on the front 100 and on a new image on the front.
Benjamin Franklin's image will be the same as on the current bill, but it will no longer be surrounded by a dark oval.
All the U.S. paper currency except the $2 and $1 bill has been redesigned in the last 10 years to combat counterfeiting.
The $100 bill is the second most common bill in circulation after the $1 bill and it is actually more common than the $20 bill.
