Samsung has announced its next-generation smartwatch with the Samsung Gear S. The new wearable device features 3G connectivity, which means it can make and receive calls even when outside of Bluetooth range, and a curved design that appears more like a elegant watch than a boxy piece of tech like it’s previous Gear smartwatches.

According to the company, the device uses a curved 2-inch Super AMOLED display with a flexible band and lets users read messages and notifications from the screen with customizable screens and changeable straps.

The Gear S can connect to a Samsung smartphone via 3G or Bluetooth and includes a GPS provided by HERE, as well as a 24-hour news service and the ability to see and respond to notifications from Facebook.

Additional features include S Health features and can work with apps such as Nike+ Running that lets users track their runs while on the move without the need for their smartphones.

The Gear S will have a dual-core 1.0 GHz processor, 4GB of storage, 512 MB of RAM and has a 300mAh battery.

Samsung says the smartwatch will be available in October.
