Dailymail reports on Jan. 31, 2013, that a family in New York is suing the police for $250 million for interrogating and treating their 7-year-old son like a criminal.
The mother of Wilson Reyes claims that NY police treated her son like a hardened criminal as they handcuffed him and interrogated him for seven hours after he was suspected of stealing $5 from a fellow student after school.
The incident happened at Public School 114 on Cromwell Avenue in The Bronx, New York, where Reyes was arrested by police in his third-grade classroom.
And rather than taking him to the principal’s office, the police held the small boy in a room for four hours.
Due to $250 million claim made by Reyes’ mother Frances Mendez against the city and NYPD, the boy was later taken to the 44th Precinct station for interrogation and was again held there for six more hours.
Mendez also claimed that she was not allowed to see her son initially at the precinct and later when she saw Reyes, he was looking upset and his left wrist was cuffed to the wall.
