Alois Bell , the no-tip pastor has complained after a server posted her rude tip-note online. Now the Applebee's waitress has been fired , and Alois Bell claims she is sorry for her poor judgment in leaving the note.
Bell, a Pastor with Truth in the Word Deliverance ministry crossed out the 18% gratuity, which was automatically added since Bell was seated with a large party, and wrote "I give God 10%. Why do you get 18?"
A co-worker of the server who waited on Bell's party snapped a picture of the receipt, and posted it online as "a lighthearted joke." Unfortunately the story went viral, and when Pastor Alois Bell found out, she was livid!
Chelsea Welch, the server who posted, issued a statement after she was fired, saying:
“The person who wrote the note [on the receipt] came across an article about it, called the Applebee’s location and demanded that everyone be fired — me, the server who allowed me to take the picture, the manager on duty at the time, the manager not on duty at the time, everyone,” she wrote.
It seems like Pastor Alois Bell only complained because she was angered over the embarrassment she brought on herself because of her rude actions. Obviously her signature should have been blocked out, but it does not excuse the way she treated her server. The fact that she used God as an excuse not to tip seems very... unchristian to say the least.
Bell told The Smoking Gun, “My heart is really broken. I’ve brought embarrassment to my church and ministry.”
Now she has brought more embarrassment since tried to get everyone working at the restaurant fired. It seems as if Bell should be the one worrying about having a job.
Andy Bearden agrees. He started a petition on Change.org, asking that Welch be reinstated in her job, and that Bell be fired from the Truth in the Word Deliverance ministry. “There is nothing in the employee handbook or rules against what she did,” says Bearden.
Applebee's issued a statement as well:
“The team member involved did not wait on the guest or party. Regrettably, and without the restaurant’s knowledge, she took it upon herself to take a guest’s receipt, with the name clearly visible, and posted it online with her own commentary. That is a clear violation of our guest’s privacy and against the franchisee’s company policy that the team Member was provided when hired.”
Though Chelsea, the fired Applebee's server, should probably have used better judgment with what she posted online, Bell deliberately scratched out the gratuity, which the menu clearly stated would be added for larger parties, wrote a snarky note in its place, then she signed the receipt "Pastor Alois Bell."
Bell claims she left a 18% cash gratuity on the table.
