BBC News strike . An article at BBC News says journalist plan to strike after job cuts. The article, posted earlier today, says,: "The National Union of Journalists (NUJ) said it called the strike after failing to reach an agreement with management over the redeployment of 30 staff members facing compulsory redundancy."
The BBC Strike is expected to last for 24 hours, but one reporter said it was unclear how many journalists would cross the picket line for work today. The strike caused a midnight walkout at the BBC, which affected BBC Scotland, Radio 5 Live, the Asian Network, and The World Service.
The BBC strike came about after "some staff deployed [were] not redeployed at a time when the BBC is advertising vacant posts externally. BBC says they are taking steps to redeploy staff wherever possible, but stated they have "significant savings targets, and as a consequence, may have to make a number of compulsory redundancies."
The BBC plans to cut about 2,000 jobs over five years as part of its Delivering Quality First program.
