Laptop computer manufacturers are constantly trying to separate themselves from the rest of the pack by offering features that their rivals don’t have. Today Google revealed its Chromebook Pixel, which incorporates a touch screen display.
High-end stuff
The new Chromebook Pixel retails for $1,299 for the Wi-Fi version and $1,449 for on-board LTE wireless connectivity. The new laptop boots up in just a few seconds, runs Chrome OS, and utilizes total solid state technology.
The new laptop has a 12.85-inch screen and has the “highest resolution screen that has ever been shipped on a laptop,” according to Sundar Pichai, head of the Google Chrome division.
Some would argue that the Chromebook Pixel is somewhat overpriced, and may experience some sticker shock due to previous iterations of the Chromebook costing less than half of the new Pixel. But Pichai believes it is worth every penny and said the Chromebook Pixel "stands up very well against a MacBook Air.”
The touch screen display will allow users to edit documents originating from Microsoft Office software such as Word and Excel.
The Chromebook Pixel will be ready to ship in April 2013.
