According to reports on Feb. 25, 2013, Iceland intends to ban Internet porn and make the country a porn-free zone.

The government of this tiny nation is drafting plans to ban both online and print pornography. The reason is to save the children of the country from the surge of violent sexual imagery.

However the ban, which was proposed by Interior Minister Ogmundur Jonasson, has caused uproar in the country as the people are not eager to accept the ban.

Dines, a professor at Wheelock Womens College in Boston said, ""Iceland is going to be the first country with the guts to stand up to these predatory bullies from LA [in the porn industry]," she said. "It is going to take one country to show that this is possible."

In fact, according to opponents, this move will censor the web and led to an authoritarian regime. Moreover, they also say that this will undermine the reputation of the country as a Scandinavian bastion of free speech.

On the other hand, as per the advocates of the ban, it is a sensible decision which will keep children away from serious harm.

They say that as there are laws in the society against porn, they should apply to the Internet as well.
