Pennsylvania Representative Tina Davis has issued a memorandum to her fellow house members giving notice of her intent to introduce internet gambling legislation in Pennsylvania.

Davis points to Pennsylvania becoming the second largest gambling market in the country and the need to compete with the neighboring states of Delaware and New Jersey who have taken action on the issue of internet gaming.

New Jersey waits

In December the New Jersey legislature passed a bill that would allow New Jersey residents to play online versions of casino games anywhere in the state.

The proposed law was passed by the New Jersey Assembly and the New Jersey Senate. Passage of the bill by the New Jersey legislature does not mean it is a sure thing the bill will become law because Governor Christie vetoed a similar measure last year.

NewJersey.com reported that John Pappas, the executive director of the Poker Players Alliance met with a senior member of the Governor Christie administration in Trenton this week to state his case for the online gambling bill that Christie has yet to sign or veto.

The deadline for Governor Christie to approve the law is Thursday, February 7, and so far the governor has been pretty quiet on the topic.

Delaware law in place

In June of 2012 Delaware passed an internet gaming bill . According to the Delaware bill, "Internet lottery games would be offered solely to persons within the State of Delaware at the current time. A person's location would be determined from a person's computer or mobile device."

Although Delaware has yet to offer any type of online gambling their bill is in place should any federal law establish guidelines for internet gaming,
