Nevada quickly moved their online gambling bill through the state legislature in an effort to beat out rival New Jersey in the race to be the first state to offer online poker.
Governor Brian Sandoval signed the bill Thursday afternoon legalizing online gambling in Nevada.
Assembly Bill 114 authorizes Nevada to negotiate with other states to form a compact to allow the expansion of internet gambling to customers from those states. Nevada hopes to supply the licensing and regulation for online poker via the Internet through out the United States.
Numerous details still need to be worked out and it could be months before online poker is played in Nevada.
New Jersey waits
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie said on Tuesday that he will quickly sign an internet gambling bill if lawmakers make the changes he wants. The New Jersey law passed through the legislature but Christie gave the proposed law a conditional veto calling the measure a sign of conditional support for the implementation of internet gaming in New Jersey.
Delaware moving forward
In June of 2012 Delaware passed an internet gaming bill. According to the Delaware bill, "Internet lottery games would be offered solely to persons within the State of Delaware at the current time. A person's location would be determined from a person's computer or mobile device."
The Delaware State Lottery began accepting bids for service providers for its online gambling operations with a target date of September 30 to have everything operational.
