It may come as a surprise to many iPhone 5 owners but the newest processor in their devices, the A6, is only a dual-core chip, and with the many quad-core smartphone monsters from Apple’s competitors, the company that Jobs built may follow suit, according to a report released today.

New rumors

The latest rumors stem from Peter Misek, an industry analyst for Jeffries, who is well known for his prognostications regarding Apple stuff. His latest crystal ball gazing indicates that Apple may be on its way to some major, if not late, improvements for its upcoming iPhone 6.

Among the various predictions by Misek are:

The iPhone 6 will be delayed for launch and will cost more than the iPhone 5. Apple will be ramping up the power in the iPhone 6 by incorporating new and smaller 20mm sized processor chips. The new iPhone 6 may have a quad-core or even an eight-core processor. Apple may be converting its iPhone 6 displays from LCD technology to OLED. Apple’s iOS will be revamped for more performance and power to compete better with Samsung’s products. The new iOS will feature better operation with the iCloud and gesture controls.

A bigger iPhone 6 display

Apple has reluctantly been lagging when it comes to implementing large screen displays for its smartphones, and according to Misek, this will be a thing of the past with the emergence of the iPhone 6. He sees a 4.8-inch display for the next generation of iPhones.

But he also feels that the difficulty Apple will experience in ramping up all of the projected changes for its new iPhone 6 may delay its release until sometime in 2014.

The wrap-up

The iPhone 6 will be an important turning point for Apple because it will demonstrate to the world that it can still produce “wow” products that still capture the imagination of the public.

But even if the iPhone 6 doesn’t have a big “wow” factor, Apple fans will still be able to appreciate the changes incorporated into the new device.
