Governor Chris Christie signed New Jersey's Internet gaming bill into law on Tuesday making The Garden State the third state to pass online gambling legislation. .
Christie vetoed a proposed online gambling bill last year, and conditionally vetoed online gambling earlier this month . But with the conditional veto Christie's office described his actions as "a balanced proposal to support the implementation of internet gaming in New Jersey."
The New Jersey legislature made the changes to the bill requested by Christie and quickly passed the revised version on to the Governor for his approval prior the 2013 budget speech.
Christie remarked after signing the bill , "I am pleased to say that today I signed New Jersey's Internet gaming bill, opening the way for new opportunity to bolster our efforts to continue the revival of Atlantic City, its casinos, and entertainment offerings."
With Nevada also passing an online gambling bill this month New Jersey did not want to fall behind in the race to get legal online gambling running.
Nevada hopes to negotiate with other states to form a compact to allow the expansion of internet gambling to customers from those states. Nevada plans to supply the licensing and regulation for online poker via the Internet through out the United States.
Delaware passed an internet gaming bill in June of 2012. The Delaware State Lottery began accepting bids for service providers for its online gambling operations with a target date of September 30 to have everything operational.
With online gambling laws on the books in New Jersey, Nevada, and Delaware, we will be watching and waiting to see if any federal legislation makes it way to Capitol Hill this year.
