Join other "Shapers" this coming Thursday, February 28th as we celebrate with users and lovers of 3D Printing at Aunt Chilada's in Tempe, AZ at 7pm. There will be at least 75 other cities from around the globe who will be participating Shapeways.com 's Global Meetup. The goal of the night is to share what others are doing and share their experiences and ideas with other like-minded people.
What is 3D printing? It's the next big trend in design. Do you remember the “OMG” feeling you had the first time you saw your ideas and designs printed on your desktop printer. Or how about the first time you saw an iPad and saw what it could do? Well this new technology called 3D printing is beyond anything you've seen before. Imagine drawing a 3 dimensional object like a monkey wrench and practically duplicating it on a printer and have it appear exactly as you drew it with moving parts and have it be just as functional as the original. And here's the cool part. You can print your work of art in glass, ceramic, plastic, stainless steel or silver or gold plated.
3D PRINTING ON DEMAND is happening now and it's going to change the way you view your world because now you can take all of those ideas you sketched down on paper and turn them into a real product. Shapeways is one of the companies that is taking the world by storm. It used to be that 3D printers were only available to advanced students in engineering colleges across the country. Technology is getting better and it is now available to anyone with software and an idea! It's going to revolutionize not just one industry, but several. I've seen the videos from Shapeways and was blown away with what people are doing. Huge advances in toy design, jewelry design, gifts and decorative accessories, fashion, household goods, art, miniatures, models, puzzles and games.
And that's why I'm excited to be hosting the first Meetup devoted to Shapeways in Phoenix, AZ. We're going to meet and talk about what cool things that can be made, a little bit about the process and what's on the horizon.
There may even come a time when we'll have a part that breaks on say our toaster or a handle on our kitchen cupboards. We'll pull up the part on the company's web site and print it on our own 3-D Printers. That day isn't here just yet, but judging by the looks of the videos on the Shapeways' web site , that day is closer than you might think. Never before has it been so easy to conceive, design, draw, and develop a design and print it for the world to see.
