The 30 minute unprecedented Super Bowl blackout had fans scrambling to get more chicken wings, and had smart advertisers scrambling to capitalize on it. With an estimated one percent more tuned in to the Super Bowl this year more than last year, CSB reported on Feb. 4. Twitter reported on the same day 24.1 Super Bowl related tweets were sent out last night.
Twitter said it took just four minutes after the lights went out for the first advertiser to bid on "power outage" as a search term. Brands such as Bud Light and Speed Stick were among the bidders, while Calvin Klein purchased "blackout." Anyone searching for those keywords were shown tweets from those brands at the top.
