A new version in the series of Android mobile OSs known as the Jelly Bean has been introduced. The new upgrade is introduced with a variety of new features which provide Android the capability to stand out above other mobile OSs in the market.
Android has been a trend setter in mobile OS market for delivering a user customizable operating system, the functionalities of which can be hooked to the requirements and specifications of the user. While the last version of Android Jelly Bean 4.1 introduced the smoother graphics and transitions as compared to the previous versions, Jelly Bean 4.2 has further taken this feature to the next level. It provides much smoother and faster transition between the screens and applications which have enhanced the user experience.
Released earlier this month, the Jelly Bean 4.2.2 contains a modification to enhance the battery life has been made in which the CPU boosts up only when user touches the screen. When no touch input is given, it turns the CPU down to save any kind of battery drainage.
Jelly Bean 4.2 has introduced many changes in the functionality of mobile OS series, like:
Panoramic view: While Android Jelly bean 4.1 allows users to take panoramic clicks, with Jelly Bean 4.2 its inbuilt app called PhotoSphere imparts the capability to capture 360 degree shots of an entire view. It allows a viewer to explore the images in a more realistic manner. Multi-user Support: Just like a desktop machine which possesses the capability to partition different users' space, Jelly Bean 4.2 also separates the environment of different users. Each user can have separate apps, games, widgets etc., Android 4.2 also allows to switch between user spaces while using the environment of one user space. HDR Mode: HDR or High Dynamic Range is the camera feature of Jelly Bean which allows a user to take different clicks of a scene at different light exposures. The two images can then be overlaid as one over the other to provide a uniformly distributed light exposed image. This enhances the quality of the image which is neither too bright nor too dark and enhances the visibility of the image. Gesture Typing: Users can type by sliding their finger over the screen, from one button to another instead of pressing each button so this increases the speed of typing. Additionally, word prediction is also included in Jelly Bean to assist a user for fast typing. Browser Enhancements: The new browser of Jelly Bean 4.2 has better memory management, CPU utilization efficiency and hence improved performance. An updated JavaScript engine further enhances the page loading experience and improved HTML 5 support for smooth transitions in a webpage.
Prior version of Jelly Bean had Bluetooth audio streaming bugs which have been removed in the upgraded version for better user experience. For security enhancements, a Linux feature called SELinux has been introduced which makes use of Linux Security Module to provide a mechanism for applying access control security policies.
Other features like DayDream for displaying user customized information when dock is idle, just like a screen saver, is also provided in Jelly bean 4.2.
