Google Reader, which is used primarily for reading blog posts, will be taken off the market July 1st, Mashable reported on March 13, 2013 . The RSS feed reader has been in use for the past seven years. Over 10,000 people signed a petition to try to change Google's mind, but that didn't work. So, what are the alternatives to Google Reader?
There are three main readers that people are discussing as the alternative. Each of these apps offer can import OPML feeds.
Feedly: It worked as a standalone front end to GoogleReader, and so the product has the same type of usability.
NewsBlur: It takes all your feeds in, and applies a smart filter to them to push the breakingest news to the top of your pile. However, there is a fee associated with this one.
The Old Reader: The one is like GoogleReader before it was revamped in 2011 when it included the sharing function. It doesn't have a mobile app or an API.
