A 24-year-old Washington mother by the name of Rachelle Braaten is under police investigation, and sitting in jail after allowing her 22-month-old son to put his mouth over a lit pot bong, and recording it on her cell phone according to Tuesday, March 12 Radar Online reports.
Washington police detectives confronted the toddler's mother with the cell phone video. Braaten reportedly said to the police,“Well, it was like, you can’t see in the camera, but the person taking it, and then there was like a group of people there. And I guess it was a joke and a stupid mistake that wasn't really funny.”
Rachelle Braaten was arrested, and is facing charges of manufacture of marijuana, and delivery of a controlled substance to a minor. Braaten claims that her son's demeanor didn't change after he took a hit, and he just continued playing afterwards, Braaten also claims that she feels "horrible.“
"Because he’s two, and he shouldn't’t have known about that,” Braaten said. “He shouldn't have that in his body.”
Washington officers state that they found 40 marijuana plants and a number of guns at Braaten's home. The boy’s father, Braaten’s fiance Tyler Lee, told authorities that he smoked marijuana for medicinal reasons. He too was arrested after allegedly confessing that he also sold the marijuana to a dispensary.
Lee said he wasn’t there when the boy unknowingly took a hit off the bong, but was jailed over the weekend, and released yesterday pending charges. Rachelle Braaten remains in jail and is being held on a $5,000 bond.
Braaten's son was removed from the home by child protective services and placed in protective care along with his 5-year-old sibling.
Soon after this video was posted the social networks blew up with thousands of comments from angry parents across the country with posters using the hashtag #potbongtoddler to rip these young,irresponsible and criminal parents.
