T-Mobile announced some game changing plans this week that are sure to interest countless customers and make them consider switching over and throwing their money at the Magenta company. At Tuesday's UnCarrier Event, they not only revealed that they will be selling the iPhone for the first time ever , but they also announced plans that are probably the best in the mobile industry.
There are three aspects to the new Simple Choice plans that deserve explanation.
No more contracts - T-Mobile says they are still a mobile company, they're just no longer acting like one. To prove this, you will no longer have to sign a two-year commitment. Join when you like, for as long as you like, and leave whenever you like. However, with the new prices, chances are you won't be leaving soon. Simple Choice plans - Unlimited talk and text will cost you only $50 per month, and TMO will toss in 500 MB of data usage for no extra charge. Feel free to use as much data as you want; they've put an end to data caps and throttling. Of course, all that data won't come free. you can choose to either have unlimited data for an extra $20/month, or pay $10 for every 2 GB you use. Also included in these chargers is using your device as a mobile hotspot, if capable. If you've got a family plan, the first two lines are $80/month (not counting additional data) for the first two lines, and $10/month for every line after that. The data rates stay the same. No more subsidized phone prices - Gone are the days of paying a smaller price for a premium phone in exchange for a higher priced phone bill. With the Simple Choice plans, you will make a small down payment on your phone and then make small monthly payments over 24 months, or until the phone is paid off. At first that might seem like you're spending more money, but I've done the math, and this new phone purchasing model could literally save you hundreds on your phone bill over a two-year time span.
The plans are available today for new customers and those on Value Plans, however, if you want to switch over from a Classic Plan, there will be migratory fee applied. I've already tried to switch over my four lines to these new plans and was slightly discouraged by the $600 fee I would have to pay, but after doing the math I realized that I was still saving money. It's a win pretty much no matter how you spin it!
