The United States is gearing up for another major winter storm in 2013 according to the reports from the Weather Channel on Tuesday, March 5.
Al Roker also reported that the winter storm which has been named Saturn is expected to produce several inches of snow across the Midwest and into the East Coast beginning later today.
Saturn is a winter storm that has been described as one that is packing heavy, wet, travel-snarling snow that will threaten the Midwest on Tuesday with its hardest punch of the winter, and forecasters said it could curl through the major cities of the Northeast later this week.
The heaviest snow from winter storm Saturn is expected to be in a band stretching from Minnesota and Wisconsin down through the eastern nose of Iowa and across through Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and the central Appalachian Mountains.

Illinois
The Chicago area was forecast to find itself in the midst of a storm that could wind up dumping as much as 10 inches of snow before the end of Tuesday — the most since the 2011 blizzard and its more than 20 inches of snow.
The forecast is for 8 to 10 inches throughout northeastern Illinois.
The Illinois Department of Transportation planned to send a fleet of 360 trucks to plow roadways in northeastern Illinois early Tuesday, with a total of 600 throughout Northern Illinois.
Air travelers were advised to check to see if flights are delayed before heading to the airport.
Minnesota
Snowfall Tuesday canceled classes for dozens of schools including Rochester, Winona, Stillwater and Shakopee.
The National Weather Service predicted a two-day snow total of 7 to 10 inches in the Twin Cities area and 8 to 12 for much of southeastern Minnesota. Forecasters expected the snow to taper off by Tuesday afternoon.
Lakeville in Dakota County had 7 inches of new snow by Tuesday morning with nearly 5 inches at Red Wing.
The storm caused Delta Air Lines to waive fees for one-time changes in travel plans for passengers using the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport and others in the Upper Midwest Monday and Tuesday.
Indiana
The forecast is for 8 to 10 inches of snow throughout northwest Indiana.
Central parts of the state will see rain during the morning.
Ohio
In central Ohio, forecasters are calling for a dusting of snow Tuesday morning, turning to rain and possibly sleet throughout the day, then turning to snow again in the late afternoon and continuing through the night.
The Columbus area could get between 5 and 7 inches by noon Wednesday, with areas north and west of Franklin County possibly getting more.
A winter storm warning is in effect from 11 a.m. Tuesday until 1 p.m. Wednesday.
Michigan
Saturn is expected to clip parts of southern Michigan as it moves past the state.
The National Weather Service says 1 to 3 inches of snow is expected by Tuesday night in Van Buren and Kalamazoo counties in southwestern Michigan..
Snow is possible in some other southern Michigan counties. Elsewhere in the state, little or no snow accumulation is expected.
Pennsylvania
Forecasters say higher parts of western Pennsylvania could get 8 to 14 inches of heavy, wet snow, while other areas will get 4 to 6 inches. The most intense snow is predicted for late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning.
The snow is expected in Allegheny, Beaver, Greene, Washington, Fayette and Westmoreland counties.
D.C., Maryland
A winter storm watch is in effect for both Washington and Baltimore. Points to the West, including Loudoun County, are under a winter storm warning. Conditions are expected to deteriorate late Tuesday night.
Forecasters say it's difficult to predict how much snow may accumulate in Washington and Baltimore along the crossover between rain and snow.
Emergency responders are concerned about power outages and traffic issues. Power outages may be worse with wet, heavy snow that can bring down branches and power lines. Dominion Virginia Power says it's talking with other utilities in the South about sending crews to help restore electricity.
Washington hasn't seen a major March snowfall since 2009.
Virginia
Parts of Virginia could see more than a foot of heavy, wet snow.
The National Weather Service says rain will turn to snow Tuesday night. The snow is expected to continue into Wednesday morning.
Ten to 14 inches of snow could fall in Staunton, Waynesboro, Harrisonburg, Winchester, Front Royal and the counties of Augusta, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke.
Six to 10 inches of snow is expected in Nelson, Albemarle, Greene, Madison, Rappahannock, Loudoun, Orange, Culpeper and Fauqier counties, and the cities of Frederick, Charlottesville, and Leesburg.
West Virginia
Parts of the state than a foot of heavy, wet snow in eastern counties.
The National Weather Service says rain will turn to snow Tuesday night. The snow is expected to continue into Wednesday morning.
Expected snowfall ranges from 5 to 9 inches in Greenbrier County to up to 14 inches in the Eastern Panhandle and Preston and Tucker counties.
Wisconsin
The Wisconsin State Patrol said a semi slid off a snow-covered interstate in western Wisconsin and into a river.
The storm caused dozens of schools to cancel classes, including the districts of La Crosse, Black River Falls, Tomah and Prairie du Chien.
The University of Wisconsin-Platteville and Viterbo University in La Crosse also canceled classes Tuesday.
Emergency managers urged residents to put winter survival kits in their vehicles and check on road conditions.
Dakotas
Winter Storm Saturn set some records on its way out of the two states.
Late Sunday and Monday, Saturn brought freezing rain to parts of the two states and heavy snow to areas of North Dakota. As much as a foot was reported in several cities in the north.
The National Weather Service says Grand Forks on Monday received a record amount of snow for the date, with 7 inches. Minot not only got a foot of snow but also set a rainfall record for the date, along with Williston. Williston also got half a foot of snow.
No-travel advisories are still in place in some areas in the two states and some schools are starting late, but the forecast calls for conditions to improve as the day goes on.
Iowa
As much as 10 inches of snow has fallen in northern parts of the state.
Several school districts canceled or delayed classes Tuesday.

The winter storm, Saturn promises heavy, wet snow, which brings on another concern, beside the dangerous travel conditions, it adds health risks and is sometimes called “heart attack snow” because it is the most work to shovel.
“It is taxing their bodies and their hearts,” Dr. David Marmor, a cardiologist at NorthShore University HealthSystem in Evanston, Ill., told The Associated Press. “People are really testing their limits, and if they’re already at high risk, they are better off paying the kid across the street to do it.”
The weather officials are urging everyone in the path of winter storm Saturn to use extreme caution and to be prepared. While most enjoy a good snowstorm, many are stating via Twitter that they hope winter storm Saturn will be the last winter storm of 2013.
