Huffingtonpost mentioned in a post dated March 31, 2013 that Youtube has declared to shut down on April 1, 2013.

The news came just after the video sharing website posted a video Sunday morning titled, "YouTube's ready to select a winner."

No one remembers that Youtube actually began as a competition to select the best video.

Was it ever declared by Youtube? Is it merely a salvo of the 2013 April Fool's Day?

According to Huffington Post, after the shutdown of the website, the winner will not be announced immediately.

So, people will have to wait till 2023 for the declaration of the winner. It has been reported that around 150,000 videos have been seen by the judges.

Moreover, the videos are not rated on the basis of their popularity. The winner will receive an MP3 player and a $500 creative stipend as an award.

YouTube's Competition Director Tim Liston announced in the opening scene of the video that they are so close to the end.

Quoting Liston from the video, Huffingtonpost mentioned, “Tonight at midnight, YouTube.com will no longer be accepting entries.

After eight amazing years, it is finally time to review everything that has been uploaded to our site and begin the process of selecting a winner."
