Around 38 people died in a mental hospital fire which broke out about 2:00 a.m. on Thursday, reports the Yahoo News on April 26, 2013.

According to RIA Novosti, the one-story hospital in the Ramenskoye settlement caught fire due to short circuit.

The investigations are in process by the Russian Investigative Committee to know the possible cause of the short circuit and the reasons for poor fire regulations in the psychiatric hospital.

Reports say that the list of 38 people died includes 36 patients and two doctors. However, three nurses were able to save their lives.

The record of the emergency services shows that the patients were of the age group ranging from 20 to 76.

The emergency situations ministry official, Vadim Belovoshin reported that the firefighters reached the hospital after an hour following the emergency call.

The reason for their delay was the closure of a local ferry across the river, so they had to detour.

Health Ministry officials said that the Hospital was housing patients with severe mental disorders.

Mr. Belovoshin revealed to Itar-TASS news agency that although the windows in the hospital were blocked yet the hospital had two fire escapes.
