The NBC News reported on March 31, 2013 that an Alaska State Troopers helicopter on a night rescue operation crashed on Sunday near Talkeetna north of Anchorage.

The authorities reported that three people were on board but the crash left no survivors.

Around 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, the helicopter, with two people on board viz. a pilot and a trooper, rescued a stranded snowmobiler near Larson Lake, east of Talkeetna, north of Anchorage.

The pilot sent a radio message that they were en route to seek the help of medics. However, the dispatch reported that the copter didn’t reach.

A search aircraft was immediately put on work and it discovered the crash site at about 9:30 a.m. on Sunday. Three people were found dead on the crash site.

NBC station KTUU of Anchorage stated that the family members of the deceased were contacted. Investigations are still going on to find the cause of the crash.

The NBC News quoted troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters told KTUU saying, "This tragedy is going to have a very profound effect on all the employees of the Department of Public Safety, the Alaska State Troopers, [and] the search and rescue community; Helo-1 is our main helicopter that goes out, and Helo-1 has pulled so many people from the Alaska wilderness."
