In their ongoing struggle for justice Anonymous takes ownership of the Westboro Baptist Church Facebook page , mocking the Christian hate group by posting enlightened memes promoting tolerance and diversity.

On April 16 multiple media outlets began to report that Anonymous had hacked the Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) Facebook page following WBC threats to protest the funerals of the victims of the Boston Marathon bombing. However, these reports are false.

Anonymous did not hack the WBC Facebook page. Rather, as Mother Jones reports, “they have been engaged in the brandjacking (read: squatting) of the (bogus) Westboro Baptist Church page for the past four months.” Thus, Anonymous owning the WBC Facebook page is more prank, than hack.

The “About me” section on the WBC Facebook page reads:

“THE OFFICIAL WESTBORO BAPTIST CHURCH FACEBOOK PAGE YA'LL. Church Leaders; Marilyn Manson, Anonymous, and Captain Crunch.”

Media interest in the WBC heightened when only hours after the April 15 terrorist attack that killed three and injured at least 176 others at the 2013 Boston Marathon, the Christian hate group announced plans to picket the funerals of the victims of the terrorist attack. The announcement came via Twitter :

BREAKING: Westboro Baptist Church to picket funerals of those dead by Boston Bombs! GOD SENT THE BOMBS IN FURY OVER FAG MARRIAGE! #PraiseGod.

As to be expected, the Westboro Baptist Church claims God sent the terrorist attack to punish the U.S. in general, and Boston in particular, for supporting marriage equality and justice for the gay and lesbian community.

In solidarity with the victims of the tragic attack, Anonymous (‏ @YourAnonNews ) sent out a tweet indicating that if the Westboro Baptist Church picketed the funerals of the Boston Marathon Bombing, they would answer to the collective:

If #WBC protests the Boston funerals, they will have to expect us.

The battle against hate, homophobia and injustice continues. As always, expect more lulz, more pranks, and more justice from the international hacktivist collective known as Anonymous.
