The Associated Press Twitter account has reportedly been hacked on April 23, 2013.


Many on Twitter are reporting that the bogus tweets sent by the hackers included one that referred to explosions at the White House.


Additional tweets stated that President Obama had been injured in the explosion.


Shortly before 1:15 p.m. ET, the account was suspended after the hacked tweets went out.


A spokesperson for the AP confirmed that the @AP account was hacked, although an older account, @AssociatedPress was still in operation, yet not used since January 2011.

Who hacked the Associated Press Twitter account?


Rumors are flying on the social media site, with one person tweeting that the account was hacked by the "Syrian Electronic Army." That information remains unconfirmed.


At 1:30 p.m. ET, the Twitter account was still showing as "suspended."


It is unknown how long the account will be down.
