The Google Play marketplace app displays a great deal of downloadable Android content, but it’s overall look and presentation left some users wondering if it was designed by a fourth grader or even worse, a corporate pencil pusher. But these concerns will be remedied by Google today.

Sleeker looking

The new Google Play marketplace app (version 4.0.25) will be available for download sometime today and presents an improved layout, which feature lighter background colors, a more logical search interface, and a streamlined look. Much of the overhaul resembles the Google Now predictive search routine.

Little boxes

The familiar large metro-like boxes to the left of the app screen are no longer there (hooray!) and have been replace by neat little rectangles at the top for various categories such as movies, music, apps, games, and more.

The listings for the content on the newly designed Google Play app include the ability to add items to a “wish list” or to purchase the items right away. The whole layout is less cluttered and professional looking. The colorful Google Store icon has been replaced by the familiar Android shopping bag.

When?

The Google Play update should be available sometime today on its website, but for those who can’t wait for it, the APK file for the new refresh can be downloaded from Droid-Life here .
