Yahoo News reported on April 24, that a foot-long, nine-inches in diameter, non-extinct elephant bird egg fetched 66,675 pounds ( $101,813) at a London auction.
The huge, partly fossilized egg laid by a elephant bird was sold for more than double the expected amount.
The egg is said to be 100 times bigger in size than a chicken egg. The egg which is reportedly laid in the island of Madagascar, is reported be dated back before the 17th century.
In a statement, the Christie's auction house in London said that the massive egg valued at 20,000 to 30,000 pounds pre-sale was bought by an anonymous person over the telephone in just ten minutes of bidding.
These kind of eggs were wiped out hundreds of years ago and are very rare to be found. The name of the buyer was not revealed.
According to Wikipedia, Elephant birds were a family of large flightless birds that lived on the island of Madagascar about 200 miles off the coast of Africa.
