With a few gadgets, you can have world-class brewed coffee in less time than it takes to microwave a cup of instant.
First, the method: To make the coffee, you simply place your filter in a funnel. Add your coffee. Hold the funnel over your cup, then pour nearly boiling water water into the funnel. In less than a minute your coffee is done.
Now let's go step by step, but this time with gadgets. Please note, I purchased all these gadgets on my own. I tested them (as well as others) and consider these the best. They are all available on Amazon.
Put a filter in a funnel : If you want unbleached paper filters, try Chemex. They are just large folded squares of paper. Why are they the best? They are far less expensive than other unbleached papers.
You can use a regular household funnel, but you'll have to hold it above the cup while the coffee drains out. If you want a funnel that will stand above the cup, you can get the Cuissental SlickDrip for less than $10. Why us it the best? It is silicone and saves space because you can fold it into the size of a coaster when not in use.
Add coffee: If you'd like to try a less expensive version of kopi luwak, the rarest and most expensive coffee in the world, order a pound of Coffee Primero. The University of Florida developed an enzyme process that recreates the biological method that produces kopi luwak. The result is a rich coffee with no bitterness. Why is it the best? Kopi luwak is created from the undigested coffee beans in the feces of civet cats that have eaten coffee berries. Coffee primero...isn't. It is also far cheaper and does not contribute to animal cruelty.
Pour in hot water : Good coffee requires good water. The Zerowater pitcher is unlike all other pitcher filters. Why is it the best? It comes with an electronic water tester and produces water with zero particles and no chlorine smell or taste.
Water heater: If you want hot water ready all the time, the Zojirushi Hybrid hot water pot is the Rolls Royce of countertop water heaters. It's a large, super-insulated water container with a heating element. It keeps your water at a temperature appropriate for green tea, regular tea or coffee and dispenses at the press of a button. Why is it the best? Famous Zojirushi quality. Made in Japan, it should last for year, and the insulation is unreal.
So, there you go. A few lovely gadgets, and a perfect cup of coffee. Enjoy.
