The Inquisitr reported on April 30, 2013, that the NY state could inherit $40 million left by Roman Blum if no living relatives come forward.
Blum was a Holocaust survivor and real estate developer who passed away in January 2012 at the age of 97 and left behind no will.
Blum has no heirs to claim his fortune. If no one comes forward to claim the wealth within the next three years, all the money will go to the state of New York.
Blum's first wife passed away during Holocaust and he had divorced his second wife. He didn't have children and also failed to make a will before he died.
He may have wanted to donate money to charity or to a group of friends, which is not possible without a will.
The public administrator,Gary D. Gotlin, working on Blum’s case, has his man’s home and auctioned off his assets.
Gotlin hired a genealogist to track down if there are any surviving relatives of Blum else the money will be going to the state of New York.
In case there is no will, the state will determine on how to disperse of the person’s estate. Normally the money will be given the person’s first spouse. In case the spouse is dead, the money goes to the parents, children or siblings.
Blum's accountant ,Mason D. Corn, had urged him to make a will before he passed away and Blum had agreed, but it was too late. An old friend of Blum believes that he had made a will and it must be somewhere out there.
