Marvel Studios unveiled the first poster for the upcoming film "Thor: The Dark World" on Friday. The studio is priming the pump for next week's big reveal: The first trailer for the film will premiere on April 23.
The "Thor" sequel takes place in the aftermath of Marvel's blockbuster 2012 hit "The Avengers." The summary for the film is as follows :
Set one year after The Avengers, Thor battles to save all the Nine Realms from a mysterious enemy older than the universe itself. However, a primeval race led by Malekith, who is out for revenge, intends to plunge the universe into darkness.
Confronted by an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot overcome, Thor must reunite with Jane Foster and set out on a dangerous journey that will force him to make the ultimate sacrifice.
We've seen Christopher Eccleston of "Doctor Who" fame signed to play Malekith the Accursed, ruler of the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim (based on the comics), and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje ("Lost") signed to play Algrim the Strong, so we know that the "primeval race" listed in the summary are the Dark Elves.
"Thor: The Dark World" stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan SkarsgÄrd, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano and Jaimie Alexander with Rene Russo and Anthony Hopkins as Odin.
The film is directed by Alan Taylor, produced by Kevin Feige, from a story by Don Payne. Screenplay is Christopher Yost and Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. The film is based on Marvel Comics' classic superhero Thor, who first appeared in the comic book "Journey into Mystery" no. 83 in August of 1962.
