The Huffington Post reported on April 15, 2013, that a racing fan by name Kirk Franklin shot himself and committed suicide in the infield of a National Rifle Association-sponsored NASCAR race at the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth Saturday night.

Reportedly, Franklin was involved in a heated argument with other race spectators before he shot himself.

According to Police spokeswoman Tracey Knight, alcohol may have been a factor in this case.

Franklin and his friends were watching the NRA500 NASCAR race when at about 10:30 p.m. he shot himself. His body was reportedly found in the back seat of a truck. Watch video .

According to track spokesman Mike Zizzo, the incident happened “in or around a pickup truck” inside of the infield near the backstretch. Some people witnessed the shooting, but nobody else was injured.

The Police blocked the area where the tragic incident took place and investigators were seen taking photographs and looking into the truck.

SportsGrid wrote in its column about the horrific incident at the race, “Consider what a self-inflicted gunshot wound, at one of their own events nonetheless, would do to hurt the NRA’s cause. It’d be a PR nightmare”.

Kyle Busch won the NASCAR race event.
