North Korea has revealed that they have put military units "on the highest alert." The country has stated that the United States mainland Hawaii and Guam are targets set in their sites, according to CNN reports on Tuesday, March 26.
The U.S. has stated to American citizens that it is "fully capable" of defending itself and its allies.
The Supreme Command of the North Korean military said it "will put on the highest alert all the field artillery units including strategic rocket units and long-range artillery units, which are assigned to strike bases of the U.S. imperialist aggressor troops in the U.S. mainland and on Hawaii and Guam and other operational zone in the Pacific, as well as all the enemy targets in South Korea and its vicinity."
North Korea is angered by the new tougher U.N. sanctions and joint military exercises by the United States and South Korea, Pyongyang has issued a range of bombastic threats in recent weeks.
In a statement released by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), North Korea said, "From this moment, the Supreme Command of the Korean People's Army will be putting in combat duty posture No. 1 all field artillery units including long-range artillery strategic rocket units that will target all enemy objects in U.S. invasionary bases on its mainland, Hawaii and Guam."
"The U.S. should not forget that the Anderson Air Force Base on Guam, where the [American] B-52 takes off, and naval bases in Japan and Okinawa, where nuclear-powered submarines are launched, are within striking range of the DPRK's (Democratic People's Republic of Korea) precision strike means. Now that the U.S. has started open nuclear blackmail and threats, the DPRK, too, will move to take corresponding military action."
Experts say the recent statements signal intensified brinkmanship and the world should expect to hear more.
