In the past, you have seen reviews here and elsewhere of products like Boxee, MovieNite, Roku, etc. Those boxes do provide a great range of viewing pleasures. They are however, boxes, and therefore are rather less than portable.
Enter, state left, the little USB device known as Rabbit TV . It is from “ TeleBrands ”. Being a product that has a lot of TV exposure, I realize that that name may conjure up some mixed emotions, but this should only conjure up thoughts of “Why didn’t I think of that?”
Rabbit TV, can not be explained in a paragraph due to the enormity of its content. In stead of making you search the net for your favorite shows, movies (including current hit shows and blockbusters) and music, Rabbit TV links to over 25,000 full episodes from most popular networks, like ABC, NBC, Fox, History, MTV, Discovery, and many more. Rabbit TV also links to thousands of FREE Movies from around the world, along with Live Sports Streams from every major sport, Live & On-Demand News Broadcasts. Rabbit TV even has a selection of Live Scheduled TV Channels, as well as thousands of radio station programs.
At the time of writing, Rabbit TV had close to 5000 channels available through the TV section, which includes over 25,000 full episodes from popular and classic TV series available on-demand 24/7. New channels, episodes and other video content, are added almost daily. Additions could very well include; current and classic TV Shows, Original Web Series, Worldwide TV Channels and Video Sites Local US TV Channels and Video Sites, Sports Video Sites, News Stations and Video Sites, Tech Video Libraries, etc.
The Rabbit TV Movies section links you to a variety of free movie libraries (over 100), including Vudu and Hulu, as well as other known and unknown repositories., Like your cable provider, Rabbit TV also has a "Pay Per View Movies" section, where Rabbit TV users can stream the latest box office hits in seconds. Most premium movies are available for as low as $1.99 per rental. The Rabbit TV Movies section is broken down by genres, including: Foreign/Independent, Sci-fi, Horror, Documentaries, Classics, Seasonal, Midnight Movies, and more.
Now that you have been told about Rabbit TV, lets go back to unboxing and set-up. Nothing, could be simpler. It was tested on two platforms;
Mac OSx Mountain Lion Windows 8
In each case, all I had to do was plug it into an available USB port. If you are utilizing a USB hub though, I strongly suggest one with its own power supply, as performance appeared affected by one that runs of the power of the pc. There was only a single extra step for the first use. That step is to register your unit and set up a login name and password. Each consecutive use just requires the login. It was now time to grab a snack and drink and settle in to the recliner with the computer.
The selection is amazing. I searched for movies that were unavailable to me on Netflix and Hulu or Vudu. I found three movies that I loved;
The Perfect Weapon (w/Jeff Speakman) The Caine Mutiny (w/Humphry Bogart) Europa Europa
I was amazed that they were found. Clarity was great. Most were viewable in 480P, but many were in 720P.
As for TV shows, I was able to watch current as well as classic versions of Hawaii 5-0, but also, I found the entire series of JAG. So needless to say, Rabbit TV has satisfied my sense of “There’s nothing on”.
For only $10, you get a years worth of service, renewable at the same rate, or $9.99 for an additional 5 years at registration. It is not a gimmick, but a tried and true product.
