The toll continues to rise as the reports are still coming in from Mondays bombing in Boston. During the running of the 117th annual Boston Marathon three bombs exploded. Two bombs near the finish line of the marathon and the third bomb at the JFK Presidential Library about an hour later.

The first two bombs went off around 2:45 p.m. ET. According to CNN one of the runners, Linda Claire Willits, said she finished the marathon with euphoria attaining a personal best in time. She saw the finish line heard the crowd cheering and then an explosion went off. "It was so strong the bar filled up with smoke and chairs tipped over," Douglas said. "I saw people -- it was like they were on a trampoline literally flying through the air."

Bedlam ensued as smoke poured around the people close to the finish line. Some people alerted the crowd shouting that they had found another bomb. People scrambled as the second bomb exploded. One man’s legs were blown off in the blast, and he kept trying to stand up and get away not realizing the extent of his injuries.

Rushing to the scene

Steve Silva, Boston.com sports producer, was covering the finish line. What should have been a happy occasion turned into a disaster. Silva said, "It was just immediately (evident) there were injuries, right in the middle of the spectator crowds. I saw dismemberment, I saw blood everywhere," Silva said. "I saw someone lose their leg, people are crying, people are confused."

Rescue workers rushed people to stretchers and ambulances all while those unaffected made calls home to let people know they were ok.

What we know

Officials believe the bombs were planted by terrorists and have a suspect under watch at this time. Police were issued a bulletin with a description of a person of interest. The person of interest is a Saudi Arabian national who is currently in custody as of the last update from CNN.
