The Yahoo News reported on May 29, 2013, that American singer-songwriter Adam Levine , lead vocalist and front man of pop rock band 'Maroon 5' came under fire for his comment of 'I hate this country' on NBC's show, 'The Voice'.

Adam Levine lost two of his team members Judith Hill and Sarah Simmons on Tuesday night in the show.

He has only one contestant from his team left in the running. As host Carson Daly announced the contestants with lowest votes and singer Amber Carrington as “saved by America", a microphone caught Levine saying 'I hate this country' while the cameras were focused on country music star Blake Shelton.

The broadcast drew quick reaction from the Twitterverse. While called him to explain or apologize, others were defending the comment as clearly a joke. Levine cleared the matter saying that it was a joke.

On his official Twitter feed https://twitter.com/adamlevine , he posted definitions for the words 'joke', 'humorless', 'lighthearted' and 'misunderstand' in an attempt to clarify.
