This morning, news that HTC had won an injunction against HTC from using their HDR microphone technology in Amsterdam spread like wildfire. But the news isn't as bad for HTC as certain reporters want you to believe.
Supposedly, a teardown of the HTC One by Nokia’s engineers discovered the technology, which is supposed to be exclusively made for Nokia. However, Los Angeles industry analyst Paul Mueller tells this column that any injunction against HTC in the United States is unlikely.
"The HDR microphone technology that HTC uses is very similar to Nokia's, but not exact. Because of this, there is no way it will fly in the courts. If it does, you can bet Nokia will experience the same sort of backlash Apple did last year for trying to bury Samsung," Mueller says.
HTC plans to fight the injunction. However, they really have nothing to worry about. From a PR perspective, more people are now aware of the HTC One than they were before. This is nothing but great news for the HTC One, which is what we believe to be the greatest smartphone in existence.
