The Yahoo News reported on May 4, 2013 that Chinese Police have busted a racket that used to sell rat and fox meat as lamb.
According to a statement released by The Ministry of Public Security, in a three-month crackdown on food safety violators, more than 380 cases were registered and 904 suspects arrested.
63 people of the arrested ran an operation illegally in Shanghai and other nearby places Wuxi. Watch video.
Reportedly, they bought fox, rat meat which were not tested for quality and safety and pasted some additives like gelatin over the meat and re-sold it as lamb.
The rat and fox meat pasted by gelatin over it was sold in the farmers' market in Jiangsu and Shanghai.
A supreme court judge Pei Xianding said to the media in a news conference, "The situation is really grave and has indeed caused great harm to the people.
"We cannot tolerate it any longer. We must punish the criminals severely, or we cannot answer to our people," Pei said.
