The 21-year-old tennis player Alex James Rovello died by drowning at Tamolitch Falls in the Willamette National Forest on Saturday, reports the Epoch Times on May 13, 2013.
The University of Oregon said that the player died due to the driving accident.
According to the Linn County Sherriff's Department, the friends and bystanders attempted to save the native of Portland, Rovello soon after he accidentally plunged into Blue Pool at the base off the falls, but the depth of the pool and 37-degree water hindered the rescue operation.
Rovello had been extraordinary at Cleveland High School. Reportedly, he had a 21-8 match record this retiring season as a No. 3 and No. 4 singles player. He also won 16 doubles matches along with his fellow Daan Maasland.
It has been reported that Rovello's family is planning a remembrance service for May 18th.
The records tell that this isn’t the first time that an excellent Oregon athlete has drowned. Five years ago, Todd Lamar Doxey, Oregon football player also died in a swimming accident on the McKenzie River.
