Beats Electronics today announced a new version of their popular Beats By Dr. Dre Studio headphones.

The new headphones use new custom digital software (Beats Acoustic Engine) to reinvent the audio experience on the Studio, while also undergoing a design update, using lighter materials, greater strength and more flexibility. The new design allows for adjustment of the ear cups without restriction.

The new Beats Studio also includes "adaptive" noise cancellation which switches between music and unplugged modes. In music mode, sound quality and noise cancellation are said to be better balanced, while when unplugged, the noise cancellation is more aggressive.

"With the original Studio headphone we set out to prove that people all around the world care enough about sound to invest in it – and we did," said Jimmy Iovine. "Now we are taking it a step further. The new Studio is tuned with balance, accuracy and emotion, has a breathtaking design and truly innovative technology. This is the sound of the future."

Batteries no longer need to be changed, as the Studio uses a rechargeable 20-hour battery that can be recharged via USB. There is a 5-light LED battery fuel gauge that indicates how much battery life is left. The headphones will auto shut off when unplugged.

Music lovers can expect to see the new Beats Studio at retailers beginning this August, with a $299.95 price tag.
