The CBS reported on July 15, 2013, that Apple has agreed to investigate the death of a Chinese woman, whose family had reported that she died due to electrocution from iPhone 5 when the device was recharging.
Xinhua, a Chinese News Agency, cited police reports saying that on last Thursday, Ma Ailun, 23, collapsed to the floor after she talked using iPhone 5 while the battery was being charged.
In a statement sent to CNN and other news agencies, Apple said that they were deeply saddened to learn of the tragic incident and offered condolences to Ma's family.
Apple said that they will fully investigate and cooperate with authorities in this matter.
Full details of Ma’s death were not clear. Xinhua reported that local police have confirmed her death due to electrocution, but did not confirm yet that it was due to her phone.
Ma's sister's tweet on a local microblog urging users to be careful saying that Ma died due to talking while charging iPhone 5 went viral on the site.
CBS doubts the reports since the chance of one being electrocuted from
a charging smartphone is very low.
However there is a risk if the phone is being powered with a substandard or incompatible charger.
