The BBC news reports on July 15, 2013, that the Hubble Space Telescope has discovered a new moon orbiting Neptune.
This is the 14th natural satellite revolving around the Planet Neptune and is designated as S/2004 N 1.
It is the Neptune's smallest moon revolving every 23 hours and measures to just about 20 km (12 miles).
New Neptune moon was discovered on July 1 during fresh analysis of older Hubble Space Telescope images and the scientists having confirmed, announced July 15, 2013 as the Neptune's new moon discovery.
Mr Showalter, moon's discoverer, explains as "The moons and arcs orbit very quickly, so we had to devise a way to follow their motion in order to bring out the details of the system."
The scientists reveal that the new satellite was not easy to find.
"It's the same reason a sports photographer tracks a running athlete - the athlete stays in focus, but the background blurs."
While surveying the five ringed Neptune even Voyager spacecraft failed to spot this new moon in 1989 as it is very tiny and orbits very fast.
NASA said that it is about 100 million times fainter than the dimmest star that can be seen with the naked eye.
Astronomer, Showalter while going through the photographs taken by Hubble between 2004 to 2009, noticed a white fleck appearing in more than 150 photographs which led him to conduct a detailed study and discover new satellite orbiting Neptune.
