The child, who is third in line to the throne hasn't been named yet. An official bulletin was placed on a golden easel in the forecourt of Buckingham Palace by the queen's press secretary.
The bulletin read that Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, the wife of Duke of Cambridge, gave birth to a boy weighing 8lb 6oz (3.798kg) at St. Mary's Hospital in London on July 22 at 4:24 p.m.
Large number of people had gathered outside Buckingham Palace with flowers, champagne and a card for Prince William and Kate.
Signifying the birth of a boy, the London Eye Ferris wheel was lit up in red, blue and white while the fountains at Trafalgar Square were lit blue in London on July 22.
Prince William was with Kate at the Lindo Wing of St Mary's Hospital during the birth. The Duke and Duchess are expected to leave hospital at some point today.
Crowds gathered outside the hospital to catch a glimpse of the Royal heir for the first time along with world media. The new family of three is expected to go to Kensington Palace.
