On Thursday, the first day of August, 2013, Matt Drudge of the popular Drudge Report released some impressive stats regarding his ever-rising page views: "Thanks for the best July in Drudge Report's 18 year history with 944,026,520 views (Up from 878,438,199 in 2012]..." It is notable that during what is traditionally known as an excruciatingly slow online traffic month, Drudge posted a "July Jackpot" image on his Twitter site to celebrate.

Another top news curator and rival, The Huffington Post, (HuffPost) long ago attached a sizable portion of its search engine optimization (SEO) to Drudge's coattails and has shamelessly hung on for the ever soaring Drudge view lift since. Checking through past articles, it appears that this habit of capitalizing on Drudge's success began in 2005, the year Arianna Huffington launched what the New York Times dubbed as a Drudge alternative.

Famed cartoonist and author Jules Feiffer once said , "Good swiping is an art in itself." Like passing a HuffPost swipe card through an electronic SEO reader, HuffPost feeds on Drudge page views, regularly and often. The efforts range from subtle to hillarious, covering everything from headlines to blurbs.

HuffPost displays 100 pages for any given search, with ten search results per page:

Searching "Drudge Report" turns up 93,400 result. Searching "Matt Drudge" pops up 57,800 results. There are currently 46,300 results for the bizarre phrase or headline, "Take a breath, Matt Drudge."

Over on the Twitchy site, the conservative response by the Twitchy staff was used to slam President Obama: "Congratulations, Mr. Drudge. You did build that." Drudge is known for being a self-made success; however, as one builder to another, no matter how their stepping stones differ, perhaps Arianna Huffington might add her congratulation s or gratitude as well.
