On Wednesday, a female conservative who asked to be identified only as "Marie," told Examiner.com in an exclusive interview that she was the target of multiple death threats on Facebook. One message also included a threat of rape. Facebook, however, took no action against the person making the threats, she said.
"We will kill you," one message said.
Another message threatened to kill and rape the young woman.
The threats, according to the screenshots Marie provided, came from a person identified only as "Anas Alhroub."
Facebook responded with a private email telling her they could not confirm the incident violated the site's community standards.
Shortly after seeing these threats, Marie said she received a number of friend requests from people she did not know with Muslim-sounding names. She rejected all of the requests, she said.
Although the incident initially took place over a year ago, Marie said the posts remained visible on Facebook for several months.
Marie said that a number of friends also reported the posts to Facebook, but got the same response.
"My initial reaction was disbelief that Facebook left the comments in place," she said.
The incident changed Marie's perception of Facebook, and she no longer uses her real name.
"If they weren't such a powerhouse in the sharing of and getting out information, I wouldn't give them another thought," she added. "But because they are and because they claim to be fair across the board that needs to be challenged. They are not."
Recently, Facebook told The Blaze it not only supports freedom of speech but enforces its standards uniformly across the board.
“We review every piece of content that is reported to us or flagged in the system and each one is held to the same exact standard – as is every person who uses our service and we will enforce our Statement of Rights and Responsibilities equally," a Facebook spokesperson said.
But Marie and others who have crossed paths with the social media giant disagree.
Renee Nal, a blogger with Liberty Unyielding, said she was " booted " from Facebook after posting: "No need to dispute facts, huh? Sounds like a typical low information voter."
"Perhaps I should be honored," she wrote.
Last weekend, Marie, along with more than 31,000 others, participated in a "Facebook Blackout" protest of the site, temporarily suspending their accounts for 24 hours.
As of this writing, Facebook has not responded to our inquiries.
