At the recent Outdoor Retailer show in Salt Lake City, I made two discoveries that my feet have been talking about for days now. Sazzi sandals and Aetrex orthotic insoles have been keeping my feet very happy.
“ Hey Doug, slip on those sandals ,” said the left, while the right kept shouting “ No, I want to relax on the insoles again today. ” And so it went…nothing like a little sibling quarrel to get you started in the morning.
Sazzi Decimal Sandals
Unlike your conventional flip-flops, Sazzi Decimal sandals have four toe posts instead of the usual one. Inspired by the Anasazi People, ancient pueblo dwellers in North America, multi post sandals were worn ages ago to support their active lifestyle. Also unique to the Sazzi sandals is the “toe motion” design, with each toe having its own contour.
Sazzi sandals are made from PLUSfoam which is a blend of 100% recycled materials. Best part – the shoes do not absorb moisture, are anti-microbial and actually get more of a “grip” when they get wet, making them ideal for all types of outdoor activities (i.e. stand-up paddleboarding, boating, breakwall climbing, etc.)
My wife and I have been sporting a pair for a couple weeks now and they have become my go-to slip on sandal. Even with the four posts, I’m still able to slip these guys on really easily. Much more compact than my former sandals, they are great for packing on a trip.

Aetrex Orthotics
Ever walk by the foot health shelf in your local drug store and realize you have no idea what type orthotic insole would be best for you? Well, luckily, there is an answer and it could be just down the street from you.
I discovered the sales team from Aetrex at the convention center and they put me on their patented iStep technology foot scanner and in a matter of minutes were able to look at my foot and tell what would work best for me. (Yep, in the slideshow, that’s my actual sexy looking multi-colored foot print scan done at the show; but I digress.)
Once your foot is scanned, a quick recommendation is made and you’re slipping on the best fitting and the healthiest orthotics available for your feet. Take it from someone walking multiple miles in a convention center, it pays to have happy feet at the end of the day.
I was fitted with a pair of L400 Lynco Orthotics for my sports shoes (tennis shoes, sort of) and they worked great. Not only do the arch supports improve posture, but their top layer is made of copper fibers to prevent bacteria, fungi and odor.
I simply pulled out the top liner layer in my shoes and replaced them with the Lynco L400. I’ve been feeling good about walking ever since.
