SanDisk is a multinational company that designs and manufactures flash memory storage solutions and software. Their company pioneered flash memory storage, and have continued to offer industry-leading performance when it comes to these types of devices.

The company invented the microSD memory card format, and has since developed a full portfolio of microSD cards for retail and commercial customers. In July 2013, SanDisk introduced the Extreme microSDHC and microSDXC UHS-I memory cards, promising extreme speed and performance. The 64 GB microSDXC memory card delivers, offering the fastest speeds available making it ideal for the newest smartphones, tablets and cameras.

Specifications

Form factor: microSDXC Dimensions: 0.59” x 0.43” x 0.04” Available capacities: 64 GB Read/write speed: Up to 80/50 MB/s Operating temperature: -13 F to 185 F Storage temperature: -40 F to 185 F

SanDisk’s Extreme microSDXC UHS-I memory card promises to be the perfect companion for the latest smartphones, tablets, and cameras by delivering full HD (1080p) video recording and playback and quicker data transfer.

The microSDXC card comes in a typical clamshell casing accompanied with an SD adapter all held in by thin cardboard. The cardboard part has information printed all over it including the name of the product, the speeds, and all the “proofs” it has (water proof, shock proof, etc). The contents inside include the microSDXC card itself, an SD adapter, a small information paper, and a RescuePRO Deluxe software download.

The card looks the same as previous microSD cards with the rectangle shape that has some notches in the bottom. The front of the card has a red stripe on the top half with the SanDisk Extreme logo, and a gold stripe on the bottom half with the capacity and the form factor printed – in this case 64 GB and microSDXC, respectively. On the back of the card you can see the PCB itself and the eight gold connector pins.

Read speeds of up to 80 MB/s determine the Extreme microSDXC card’s capabilities when it comes to moving data from the card to a computer. The write speeds of up to 50 MB/s determine how smoothly video is recorded or how rapidly photos can be taken and stored onto the card.

The UHS Speed Grade featured on this card, U1, and the Speed Class 10 ratings are among the fastest currently available and are suitable for real-time broadcasts, large HD video files, full HD video recording, and consecutive recording of HD stills.

Usually these high performance cards are limited to 32 GB capacities at most, however, this new microSDXC card (extended capacity) has a capacity of 64 GB which is twice the size. This allows for 320 minutes of 24 Mbps HD video, 120 MP4 30 FPS 2-hour videos, or 18310 10 MP JPEG photos.

Performance was tested using a SuperSpeed USB 3.0 adapted connected to a high end computer. The results produced during the ATTO Disk Benchmark featured a peak read speed of 94.7 MB/s with 64 KB and larger files. Write speeds peaked at 61.4 MB/s with 64 KB and larger files.

The SanDisk microSDXC card actually surpassed the minimum read and write speeds of 80/50 MB/s according to the benchmark tests. This high performance coupled with the large capacity makes this a highly recommended memory card for those that need or want this high quality, and are willing to shell out the money. SanDisk delivered on their promise for extreme speed and performance, while adding that extra capacity for more high definition videos and photos.
