Just under a year ago, Sony released a Playstation 3 with 12 GB of flash based memory overseas, but denied that the device would find its way to North America. Now there are reports and rumors that the gaming system is on its way over to the US and Canada, with various online stores already having it in stock.
Engdaget reported this Tuesday that, even though Sony once claimed that the 12GB PS3 would stay away from North America, Canadian electronics store, FutureShop , already has the system in stock for $199.99.
"The smaller Flash drive isn't coming to North America, and a lot of that reason is the digital consumer. We really want to make sure, out of the box, that there is an option for them to be able to download that content. That is really critical for us, very very important." [ Source ]
Granted, 12GB is a small amount of space for a gaming system, and it probably wouldn't be too successful amongst the more hardcore gamers, but it's still a tantalizing offer for someone who is looking to snag one.
The rumor is that Sony will release the new model in the States and the Great White North on August 18, however Sony has yet to officially confirm that. If the leaked photo above is any indication, it seems as though we don't really need an official confirmation from them.
