A Texas witness at Corsicana reported watching a rectangular-shaped object hovering under 3,000 feet just off I-45, according to testimony from the Mutual UFO Network ( MUFON ) Case 47482 closed by investigators as an Unknown on September 11, 2013.
The witness was driving about 10 p.m. on May 17, 2013, about five miles south-southeast of Corsicana when the object was first noticed and thought to be a helicopter hovering between 1,000 and 3,000 feet. The witness described the unusual lights on the object.
"Surprised that lights were bright and each color was two rectangular bars (horizontal) lights red on one end and green on other end (appeared to be each end; hard to tell at night) which colors were a little like an airplane but much brighter bars, not small and round. Could not see outline of object, but lights appeared to be at ends of a rectangle shape."
The witness attempted to continue to look at the object and drive at the same time.
"I could then see a bright yellow (like bright traffic light yellow) also in the shape of bars, not glaring but bright. This might have been another side or back of a triangle that the angle caused to look like a rectangle. These lights did not look like any aircraft, nor was there any white light or strobe as normally on an aircraft. This bright yellow was nothing like landing lights. The lights were almost like a police cars lights or bright traffic light, but bigger, elongated and steady. It was really strange."
The witness found it difficult to judge how high up the object was.
"It just hung up there, but it may have been moving slowly. It looked like it was around 1,500 feet out and almost the same distance up. But it could have been as much as 3,000 feet or more. I had to judge by how fast I moved past it. Hopefully somebody else saw it too."
Field Investigator Thomas Diamond and State Section Director Gary A. Neitzel were assigned to this case.
"The witness stated that object was either rectangular or cylindrical with a dark surface and about the size of a large billboard," Diamond said.
Corsicana is a city in Navarro County, TX, population 23,770.
Case 47482 is one of 75 May 2013 cases now closed by MUFON investigators as an Unknown. Texas is a current UFO ALERT 3 rating, with a high number of UFO sightings nationally. Texas had 28 reports in August 2013 - the 7th highest reporting state while California had 97 reports - the highest reporting state in the nation.
