The Fox News reported on September 26, 2013, that a flesh-eating drug by name Krokodil, which was seen in Russia 10 years ago, has surfaced in the United States.
The real name of Krokodil or crocodile is desomorphine and it is said to be similar to morphine and heroin.
Dr. Frank LoVecchio, of the Banner Good Samaritan Poison and Drug Information Center in Arizona, said that two cases of people using this drug have been reported.
Dr Frank refused to comment on the patients' conditions. But said, "As far as I know, these are the first cases in the United States that are reported, So we're extremely frightened."
The drug was previously found to be used in large quantity in Russia. In 2011 more than 65 million doses of the drug were seized according to the Russian Federal Drug Control Service.
Dr. Aaron Skolnik of the Drug Information Center told Fox News, "This is really frightening," "This is something we hoped would never make it to the U.S. because it's so detrimental to the people who use it."
Krokodil drug is prepared by mixing codeine with chemicals like gasoline, paint thinner, oil or alcohol. Then the mixture is injected, potentially causing the victim's skin to turn greenish and eventually rot away.
