Tech writers announce a newly-functioning Google Glass feature before it actually works - but it will.

Google released an update to the existing MyGlass app on Thursday which reportedly allows Google Glass users to remotely control their Glass from an Android device. MyGlass is the core application Google Glass users currently access to manage Glass, including setting up wifi networks and adding and removing features.

Glass Explorers are unanimously reporting within our private online community (that non-Explorers certainly can't access) that the remote functionality doesn't exist. The anxious group suspects Glass will require a hardware update for the smartphone controls to take hold. However, the wait likely won't be long as Google updates the software fairly frequently to continuously improve the experience. The last software update was only mid-August, and added some great features for video , among other things.

Once the update is out, Glass interactions will no longer require voice interactions or fingertip navigation via the leg of Glass. Prior to the (upcoming) release, the screencast function of the MyGlass app mirrored what the Glass Explorer was seeing through Glass, and has been a great tool for evangelizing and training, but not for controlling the device.

To many, using a phone to control a device intended to replace the need to carry a phone may seem pointless, but experience shows there are countless situations where accessing Glass features without talking will be handy and far less awkward. Just the ability to cut down on distractions will allow Explorers to use Glass more frequently. Demonstrations of Glass will certainly be easier if you can help your short-time student navigate.

As of this writing there is no mention of the MyGlass update (or resolution for the actual lack of update) posted on the official G+ account of Google Glass .
